Who We Are

During our crowdfunding campaign we were contacted by somebody who had been planning something very similar to our website project. He wanted to produce something that could help all people, especially the newest sufferers who have to trawl through heaps of misinformation. After lots of talking he is on board with us to help make Tinnitus Hub something very special.

We are pleased to introduce Mishko Hansen as our new partner.

This is probably a good opportunity to give you a brief picture of all three of us, with the skills we will be bringing to the Tinnitus Hub.

Markku

A day in 2010 that was supposed to be like any other day changed my life. It was the last time ever I heard silence. A year later, I launched Tinnitus Talk. We have had members come and go, each leaving their own unique footprint. It’s been a wonderful journey so far. Having been able to meet fantastic people like Steve and Mishko, among many others, has definitely been a blessing.

I like to dabble in behind the scenes side of things. I have experience in developing websites for businesses and I make all the tech changes to the forum. For all technical questions regarding the site & forum, I’m the main contact.

I’ll also be responsible for our YouTube channel and other video content.

Steve

My favourite area is producing music and sounds for the site. I love playing around with audio and like getting out to record samples in the local Yorkshire Dales and Moors. I use Cubase and Reason for production, though I will be learning Logic when I get the chance.

I also write content and work on documents and systems, trying to make things as easy to read and plain English as possible. Once we are up and running I’ll be reaching out to professionals and the media, trying to promote the need for funds into research.

My day job is a business that we started up in 2012, an Environmental Consultancy. I am very much involved in the finances and the systems of the company; always with a keen eye to make sure we get the best value for money and don’t waste time or resources.

Mishko

Based on my own experience trying to deal with tinnitus over the last few years, I was in the initial stages of developing a more comprehensive and better curated online resource for tinnitus sufferers. And then I came across the Tinnitus Hub project. Immediately, I could see that Markku and Steve were responding to many of the same gaps that I wanted to address and so, after a lot of “getting to know each other” and hammering out our joint vision, we decided to proceed together.

I bring an academic and professional background in investment, entrepreneurship, design-innovation, and philosophy. I have been increasingly involved with social-enterprises and non-profits and look forward to using my skills and resources to help the Tinnitus Hub thrive.

Looking Ahead

We’re excited about the future of Tinnitus Hub, but it goes without saying that we’re only starting the ball rolling. The true success of the project will be because of you, the users and participants in the site. This has been a co-created project from the start, from the thousands of people who have posted on the Tinnitus Talk forum to the crowdfunding that is helping us evolve into Tinnitus Hub.

More posts coming up soon regarding how we aim to make the site even more collaborative and community-driven, as well as updates on further successes we’ve had in securing funding.
